About Carillon

Founded in 2001 as a 48-page stapled booklet.
Co-editor Ernest relinquished his post the following year and the magazine has been managed ever since by Graham Rippon.

The magazine has steadily grown in the number of pages - currently 88 - changed to a comb-bound format for a while and upgraded to a perfect-bound paperback in 2009.

I make a small payment to subscribers, believing that if it’s worth publishing, then it’s worth at least some recompense. When we started out, we did hope to increase the amount we pay over the years, but sadly, costs have always kept pace with income, though I am determined that the cover price will never be any greater than necessary. As long as costs are covered, then everything’s fine.

With the experience gained, it has been possible to help some writing groups publish anthologies and small themed booklets. The most prominent being Northern Type 51 for Northern Co-operative writers. A recent enhancement has been the purchase of a set of ISBN numbers and Carillon is now registered as a publisher, although this will never been a major activity - there are many excelllent Small Presses all over the UK - we may list those we know about in due course.
